You deserve a space where time slows down and the focus is entirely on the two of you. We have poured our hearts, hands, and nearly a decade of design into creating this retreat, and we cannot wait to welcome you into the story.

Growing up, I feasted on the pages of fantasy literature. That lifelong love of myth and storytelling helped inspire us to build our own fairytale inn.

When I travel, my packing is never complete without a well-worn paperback. I am particularly fond of Naomi Novik’s work, especially the way folklore and history shape her stories. Two of her books come to mind when I think of our Copper Crown Suite: Spinning Silver and His Majesty’s Dragon.

Spinning Silver

Spinning Silver is a slow-burning fairy tale rooted in folklore, winter, and hard-won victories. Its atmosphere feels particularly suited to the Copper Crown, with its warm stone, timber, and quiet corners tucked away from the rest of the suite.

• The Secret Nook: A hidden passageway leads to a private reading corner, tucked away behind the walls. It is the sort of place where a paperback and a little uninterrupted time seem to belong.

• The Tower Bedroom: Climb the stairs to the tower bedroom and settle in with a book as the sun dips behind Vedder Mountain. It is a quiet place to read, rest, and let the evening unfold.

His Majesty’s Dragon

His Majesty’s Dragon takes a different path, blending the history of the Napoleonic era with dragons. It’s another natural fit for the Copper Crown, which is filled draconic motifs.

• The Grand Hall: Look closely at the main chandelier and you will find four sculpted dragon heads looking down toward the hearth.

• The Tower Soaker Tub: Beneath the timber rafters, the tower soaker tub is built for two. It is one of those spots that makes it easy to turn the page and linger a little longer.

The Final Chapter

Like Novik’s writing, the Copper Crown is filled with details that reveal themselves slowly. Beyond the suite, the moat courtyard offers another quiet corner to explore, with fountains trickling into the water and koi-fish moving beneath the surface.

Those are the details I think about when choosing a book to take to take along: the stories I already love, and the places we made to read them.

The sea stays with you.

Even after the ship docks at Canada Place and the final announcements fade, something of the Pacific remains: salt in the air, the muted rhythm of water against the hull. For a week, you lived in a floating city. You shared meals with strangers and woke each morning to another piece of Alaska outside your window.

A cruise creates a particular kind of wonder. It is enormous and shared. Then the ship arrives in Vancouver, the gangway comes down. There are bags to collect and cars to find. The great ship that carried thousands through the wilderness becomes a distant shape in the harbour. Officially, the journey is over.

But perhaps this is where another journey begins.

Eastward

Leave Vancouver’s towers behind and drive east into the Fraser Valley. Gradually, the landscape changes. Buildings thin out. Mountains rise beyond farmland. In Yarrow, just over an hour from the cruise terminal, the scale of the world becomes smaller.

This is where the Hazelnut Inn waits.

It bears little resemblance to the hotels of a cruise-port city. There is no lobby designed to process hundreds of arrivals, no corridors lined with identical doors. The inn has just three suites, each conceived as its own small world.

Three Worlds

The Under Hill Suite feels rooted in the earth. Curved doors, plaster, wood, and stone give the rooms the character of a dwelling imagined rather than engineered. It is intimate without feeling cramped — the kind of place that encourages you to slow down.

The Copper Crown Suite takes a different path. Its architecture suggests a miniature castle, warm and theatrical. It feels like the private retreat of someone who has stepped away from the demands of a kingdom — deciding that reading beside the hearth is enough.

Then there is the North Star Suite.

After a cruise, its nautical character feels especially natural. The room recalls the private quarters of an old sailing vessel, but beyond the windows is not another expanse of ocean or a crowded harbour. Instead, the inn’s garden unfolds, with water moving over dark rock.

Each suite offers its own version of escape. And because there are only three, the experience remains personal.

What The Cruise Cannot Give You

On a ship, luxury comes through abundance: restaurants, entertainment, and panoramic views.

At the Hazelnut Inn, luxury comes through limitation. Fewer rooms. Fewer people. Fewer demands on your attention.

The private gardens are perhaps the clearest expression of that difference. On a cruise, you might stand beneath a spectacular night sky with hundreds of other passengers scattered across the decks. At the inn, the evening narrows to something much more intimate: two people, a garden, the sound of falling water, and daylight gradually disappearing.

Nothing is asking where you need to be next. That absence can feel surprisingly luxurious. There is no dinner seating to catch. No shore excursion beginning at a particular hour.

When The Journey Continues

By morning, the Fraser Valley begins to emerge from the mist. Light settles across the garden, revealing the details of the inn — the hand-finished surfaces and small touches that are easy to miss when you first arrive.

This is when the contrast with the cruise becomes clearest.

One carried you hundreds of miles across the ocean and placed Alaska outside your window. The other asks you to look more closely at what lies within a few steps of where you are standing. Perhaps that is why the Hazelnut Inn works so well as a final stop after a cruise.

The voyage may have ended at Canada Place. But returning to land does not have to mean returning immediately to ordinary life. You can take the long way home. Follow the road east. Leave the harbour behind. Exchange the scale of the ship for something smaller and more private. And somewhere in the quiet of Yarrow, with water moving through the garden and the last traces of the cruise still lingering in your memory, you may discover that coming ashore is not quite the end of the journey.

It is simply the moment when you finally have time to feel where you’ve been.
