The North Star suite’s tower sitting room is ringed with clerestory windows. Five contain glass but the remainder of the windows have been bricked in. Yesterday, we finished off the “bricks.” It won’t be long until the tower is complete!
If our guests look up into the upper reaches of the North Star suite’s tower sitting room, they will spot several picture hooks that look like they have been hammered (with some difficulty) into the plaster walls. We have had a great deal of fun building these little details into the Hazelnut Inn!
The detail work in the upper reaches of the interior of the North Star Suite of the Hazelnut Innis coming along nicely. The large domed ceiling over the sitting room will be ‘supported’ with a spectacular network of posts and curved beams - all ancient and weathered timbers of course. By week’s end this area will be ready for paint! Stay tuned for more progress…
Today we began the theme work in the North Star suite’s sitting room tower in earnest. It won’t be long before it is ready for colour!
The light switches in the Captain’s quarter’s provide a nice little detail to complement the suite’s theming. This shape is repeated throughout the gardens, on the exterior facade, and inside the North Star itself. It is a subtle element and guests may not pick it out, but repeated elements like this add to a richness that rewards return visits. The three switches on the left control the lights in the bedroom while the two on the right (closer to the entrance) are for the living room tower. Separating them helps make this distinction intuitive.
The interior sculpting of the bedroom for the North Star suite at the Hazelnut Inn is nearly complete. Tomorrow we should finish off the carved concrete and then we will be ready to start the painting!
