It isn’t often a bathroom is truly themed to match the other rooms in a hotel but the three bathrooms of Hazelnut Inn will be beautiful exceptions. We will still make it functional and easy to care for by using lots of colourful ceramic tile and smooth plaster on the balance of the surfaces. Peter finished installing the cement board backing which will be under the tile this afternoon. The specialty tile is all on order and as soon as it arrives we’ll begin the installation. Stay tuned…
The Imagination Corporation has a good-sized painting crew laying on the paint inside the North Star Suite. As they triple-coat the base colours it doesn’t look like much is accomplished because at the end of the day the walls, ceilings and beams are the same colour as they were the day before.
However, a dramatic change occur when the talented crew gets to the glazes! In what seems like an instant everything comes to life. Rich patinas and weathered cracks appear like magic. This space is going to be like no other! Stay tuned…
If you were to lay on your back on the inlaid tile compass rose in the sitting area of the North Star Suite and look up into the dome high above you would see an ancient earth-centric map of our solar system. The planets are labeled with their Latin names. It is (almost) finished and the work lights don’t showcase it the way the final indirect lights will, but it already looks pretty cool.
There are plenty of bright colours being splashed on every unpainted surface of the interior of the North Star Suite. Most are just undercoats, while others are the beginnings of the base colours and a few are starting to be blend coats.
Behind all of the scaffold frames and planks you can start to get a glimpse of how marvellous it will be when it is finished. Stay tuned for much, much more…
Prior to beginning the painting process in the North Star Suite we have to set up a safe and efficient scaffold. Work will begin at the uppermost regions of the central tower. The first coat of colour will use up random colours of paint leftover from other jobs. The idea is to completely seal the concrete. Subsequent layers of paint will edge closer to the final result. The third coat will be carefully blended and followed by a series of glazes to highlight the various textures. When the tower’s upper level is complete we’ll lower the scaffold and begin again on the next stage. Right now the 600 square foot suite is a maze of scaffolding from one end to the other. Stay tuned for progress reports…
Another major milestone was checked off yesterday as the crew finished off the bulk of the sculpting in the North Star Suite. Next Monday the crew will begin a fine clean before starting the primer coats of paint. The floor tiles are all on order and we are at last beginning the finish work on the North Star’s interior. This is going to be fun to watch as the colours come to life. Stay tuned…
