The paving stones forming the Hazelnut Inn’s driveway are numerous, and they require close attention to get the pattern correct, but the real work is in the edge pieces. Each edge brick must be carefully measured and cut. The curved edges are the trickiest. However, the end result is well worth the effort!

Years ago, when we began planning the Hazelnut Inn, we built a scale model of the building. The model focused on the building itself of course, but it also included the sidewalks and a little corner of the driveway.

That miniature scrap of driveway has tiny little bricks carved into it. And today if you happen to walk by the inn you will see it is covered in paving bricks.

Slowly, slowly and bit by bit we are making our dream a reality.

There was a flurry of activity at the Hazelnut Inn today. Inside the buildings, we were finishing the final details in preparation for the spray foam insulation. Outside we were rinsing off the walls and sidewalks with the pressure washer. And we were also busy laying down the last layer of sand in preparation for the paving stones we will begin laying tomorrow. Stay tuned…
