We have finished painting the first of the North Star suite’s two chimneys. It won’t be long and we will be ready to take the scaffold down and reveal the finished exterior!
The majority of the “brick” outside the North Star Suite, here at the Hazelnut Inn has had its blend coat. Next up we will add a dark glaze and a little dry brush before moving on to painting the “rocks.”
The front of the Hazelnut Inn is looking very colourful these days. The base coats of paint are often very bright — even garish — but everything will start to settle down when we begin the glazing process.
The sculpting on the Copper Crown suite’s exterior is nearly complete. The last of the window frames are installed and we are ready for the last of the concrete. Its going to be a great summer!
Peter finished carving the dragon on the Copper Crown’s door and with that it was ready to do the sandblasting. This aged the door nicely and brought out the woodgrain beautifully. The big hinges are on the outside while the fancy dragon will be be a feature on the inside. It is a remarkable door already. Now Becke will work her magic with the paint and glazes.
The exterior of the Copper Crown Suite’s entry door features a set of oversized baroque hinges. Because the hinges will be set into the door we needed to carve cavities for them. Luckily, the router makes this a fairly straightforward process.
